Exam Board - City and Guilds

Introduction

Department is made up of four members of teaching staff, with many years of experience and qualifications within the hair and beauty industry. 

Years 7-9

City and Guilds (3038) Level 2 Technical Award in Hair and Beauty Studies. To gain this qualification, student must achieve the following assessments. One externally set, externally moderated assignment One externally set, externally marked exam. This qualification allows the student to explore the exciting world of hair and beauty and the environment in which its industries operate. The qualification has three units: Exploring the world of hair and beauty Science of hair and beauty Design in the hair and beauty sector Lessons will be both theory and practical based. Use of a fully equipped commercial salon within a new development. Theory - specific services carried out within the hair and beauty sectors, roles and responsibilities and typical working patterns. How technology advancements, changes to the economy, and social factors have influenced the sector Practical - Technical hair styling, make-up and manicure skills

Years 10-11

Sixth Form

City & Guilds Level 1 Hair & Beauty Therapy - 1 year course
Students will gain a wide range of skills such as communication, time management, team work, social skills, literacy and numeracy. During the course students will look at the hair and beauty industry, promoting a professional image, health and safety and salon based learning. This will include manicuring, pedicuring, basic facials and make-up and creating an image.
Assessments will take place through a range of assignments and practical assessed tasks.
Students will be able to progress on to Level 2 courses from this qualification. 

City and Guilds (VRQ) Level 2 Beauty Therapy - 2 Year course
Students will gain a wide range of skills such as communication, time management, team work, social skills, literacy and numeracy. During the course students will look at the hair and beauty industry, promoting a professional image, health and safety and salon based learning.
Assessments will take place through a range of online closed book exams. Practical assessments will be completed within a commercial working beauty salon. This will include, Manicuring, Pedicuring, Waxing, Facials, Make-up, Eyelash/brow enhancements, creating an image.
Students will be able to progress on to the Level 3 course, which can lead to career opportunities leading to salon/spa work. retail, theatre and television and cruise ships.
City and Guilds (NVQ) Level 2 Hairdressing - 2 Year course
Students will gain a wide range of skills such as communication, time management, team work, social skills, literacy and numeracy. During the course students will look at the hair and beauty industry, promoting a professional image, health and safety and salon based learning.
Practical skills will cover shampooing and conditioning the hair, styling and finishing, plaiting and twisting, colouring and cutting.
Assessment will take place through a range of online open and closed book exams. Practical assessments will be completed in a fully commercial working.
