Travel and Tourism

At present there are 3 teachers within the travel and tourism department, two of which are also Geography teachers. The department is led by Sacha Waite, who has worked within the travel industry for many years, including working for many well-known tour operators and travel companies, as well as having 8 years teaching experience at Sittingbourne Community College.

During our recent OFSTED inspection, both Travel and Tourism lessons observed were judged to be a Good.

At present the department delivers BTEC level 2 and 3 to key stage 4 and 5 students, with students being able to choose this subject as an option to study in years 9 and 10. Students then have the option to study this in Post 16, in which they can study a BTEC Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism, which is equivalent to 3 A levels. This then gives students the required qualifications to get into university or to pursue a career in the industry.

We work with many local tourism businesses and these have included Saga Holidays, Kuoni, Thomas Cook, Thomson, Hempstead House, Shepherd Neame and King Charles Hotel.

Tourism is an exciting and hugely popular sector with a wide range of job opportunities available for students. After education, travel and tourism is the top job creator and therefore the department provides the skills and qualities needed for students to work in this exciting and growing industry.
