Swale Academies Trust Archery Festival

The Sittingbourne Community College recently hosted its first archery event as part of Swale Academies Trust and in the process celebrated being awarded Archery GB’s Junior Club of the Year. It was fitting, given the momentous nature of this award, that when schools from across Swale Academies Trust took part in the Archery Festival, their coaching and supervision was led by junior members of the archery club Emily Axten, Jack Summers, Rebecca Stevenson and Harry Stew.

Long journeys from Sussex were undertaken by staff and students from Eastbourne Academy and Causeway School, as well as from The North School in Ashford, Community College Whitstable and the school’s closer neighbours Westlands. The Sittingbourne Community College did not compete because of their national champion status being deemed an unfair advantage. The purpose of the event was to celebrate Archery at SCC whilst exposing the family of schools to the joys of the sport.

Perhaps unsurprisingly the schools that sent older students dominated the leaderboard but the Sussex schools deserve special mention for their undertaking to attend, compete and, like all schools involved, commit to future events led by SCC archers.
